Company

Who they are

Savencia, a global leader in the food industry with over €7 billion in revenue, operates under two main divisions: Savencia Fromage & Dairy and Savencia Gourmet. The group, known for its iconic brands like Caprice des Dieux, Elle & Vire, and St Môret, faced the challenge of managing customer data spread across 50 autonomous subsidiaries operating in 120 countries. In 2016, Savencia shifted its commercial strategy by establishing a global sales division to consolidate its customer data. However, the companyʼs existing SAP systems posed challenges in data integration, governance, and visibility. They successfully transitioned from SAP to Semarchy’s Master Data Management (MDM) solution, xDM, to streamline its global customer data.

Goal

Overcoming fragmented data to enable global business insights and agility

Savencia aimed to consolidate and improve customer data management to drive more informed business decisions and support its global strategy. These are just some of the challenges that led them to adopt Semarchy’s MDM solution:

Data fragmentation
With 180,000 customers across multiple systems and subsidiaries, Savencia struggled with fragmented, inconsistent data, making gaining a unified view of its customer base difficult.

Inefficient data management
The lack of a single, trusted dataset led to inefficiencies, making it hard for Savencia to respond quickly to market changes and improve operational performance.

Slow time-to-value
Previous attempts to improve data integration using SAP systems were costly and slow, limiting Savencia’s ability to react rapidly to business needs.

Governance and compliance
Verifying data consistency and meeting different governance standards across diverse global operations increased risks of noncompliance.

Strategy

Implementing a unified platform for seamless global data management

Savencia selected Semarchy’s DM platform to address data fragmentation issues and improve governance. Key strategies included:

  • Centralizing customer data: Semarchy provided a centralized, consolidated repository for customer data, eliminating redundancies and providing a single source of truth for global operations.
  • Improved data governance: Semarchy’s intelligent deduplication and data hierarchy management allowed Savencia to achieve better data consistency, accuracy, and reliability across subsidiaries.
  • Rapid deployment: Semarchy’s flexible, nonintrusive approach allowed for fast deployment and integration, enabling Savencia to significantly improve in a short timeframe.
Results

Achieving significant data quality, operational efficiency, and future-ready growth

As a result of implementing Semarchy’s xDM platform, Savencia experienced measurable improvements:

  • Reduced data redundancy: Within three months, Savencia identified 27,000 golden customer records from a pool of 180,000, drastically reducing data redundancy and improving data quality.
  • Operational efficiency and cost reduction: By streamlining data management processes and eliminating redundancies, Savencia significantly reduced operational costs, improving both efficiency and profitability.
  • Enhanced decision-making: With real-time access to accurate customer data, Savencia made more informed decisions, aligning its commercial policies across mass retail, food service, and B2B sectors.
  • Foundation for future growth: With a solid data foundation, Savencia is now positioned to leverage AI and other advanced technologies to drive further optimization and value creation across its global operations.
