Who they are
RATP Dev Lyon operates and maintains the public transport network in Lyon, including metros, trams, and funiculars. Managing such a complex and high-volume environment requires reliable, timely, and scalable data integration across multiple operational and partner systems.
To support its growing data needs and modernize its architecture, RATP Dev Lyon chose Semarchy xDI as a strategic data integration platform—enabling faster data flows, improved reliability, and a unified technology stack.
RATP Dev Lyon set out to address several key challenges:
- Replace a legacy Oracle ODI-based integration stack
- Reduce technology fragmentation (ODI, Talend, multiple tools)
- Enable faster and more reliable data processing
- Support operational reporting and contractual obligations
- Facilitate data exchange with external partners
- Prepare for a modern cloud data platform (Snowflake on AWS)
Beyond technical modernization, the objective was to create a simpler, more scalable, and future-ready data integration framework.
RATP Dev Lyon implemented Semarchy xDI as a central data integration layer across multiple use cases:
1. Operational data integration & reporting
- Extraction of data from multiple business applications (maintenance, operations, HR, etc.)
- Loading into decision-support databases
- Transformation and exposure via SAP BusinessObjects reporting
- Feeding a central data warehouse used for monthly contractual reporting to SYTRAL (transport authority)
2. Data exchange with ecosystem partners
- Integration of external data sources (e.g., ticketing validation data)
- Automated ingestion of files and APIs
- Distribution of processed data via SFTP to partners (SYTRAL, Keolis, etc.)
3. Technology rationalization
- Migration from Oracle ODI to Semarchy xDI
- Rewriting and consolidating ~30 Talend data flows into xDI
- Standardization on a single integration platform to reduce complexity and maintenance overhead
4. Enabling modern data platform (cloud)
- Use of xDI to feed Snowflake (AWS) as part of a new data platform initiative
- Focus on high-performance data ingestion (ELT approach with DBT for transformations)
5. Partner-supported implementation
- Migration and transformation supported by Nexial (partner)
- Strong collaboration ensuring speed, quality, and continuity
The adoption of Semarchy xDI delivered measurable and strategic benefits:
