Manage licenses for xDI Designer

This article explains how to manage licenses for Semarchy xDI Designer.

Overview

A fresh installation of xDI Designer runs in evaluation mode. Evaluation mode is fully functional and lasts for seven days, after which Designer needs a valid license to keep working.

A Semarchy xDI license allows you to run multiple xDI Designer instances, and is linked to an organization or company. Each instance of Designer must be set to use the license.

Designer licenses also grants permission to use certain Semarchy components. Components extend xDI with connectors to other databases and systems for data integration flows.

You can install component files to your workspace at any time, but the license determines what Semarchy components can be used.

License modes

Designer licenses work in three modes. You should choose your mode based on your environment and company requirements.

Mode Description

Online mode

xDI Designer synchronizes its license with the Semarchy license server.

  • Users receive a license key from their administrator, or from Semarchy directly.

  • The Semarchy license server updates Designer with any license changes, such as license renewals or extensions.

  • This mode requires the least amount of maintenance.

  • You do not have direct access to overall license usage information, and need to request it from Semarchy support.

Offline mode

xDI Designer reads a license key file provided by Semarchy.

  • Users receive a license key file from their administrator, or from Semarchy directly.

  • You need to get a different license key file every time the license changes.

  • The license key file is only usable on the device where Designer is installed.

Local server mode

xDI Designer synchronizes its license with a license server installed locally.

  • Users receive a license key from their administrator.

  • The administrator installs and manages a local license server.

  • The administrator gets licenses from Semarchy, and updates them in the license server when they change.

  • The local license server updates Designer with these license changes.

  • You have access to license usage information.

Configure Designer network settings from Network Settings, in Preferences. You can get there in one of two ways:

  • From the Register License window, click on the Network Settings button.

  • From the main Designer interface:

    1. Go to Window > Preferences to open the Preferences window.

    2. On the preference category list, expand General.

    3. Click on Network Settings.

These network settings affect how Designer uses the network. It does not affect its integration flows.
